Sms Lacrosse
Vision

Southern Maryland Select Lacrosse began in 2002 with a simple concept: help underexposed talent in Southern Maryland get recruited to play college lacrosse.  Today some 10 years later SMS Lacrosse has established itself as one of the most recognizable and successful elite select recruiting programs in the country.  Our coaches have more than 70 years of combined coaching experience. They’ve played in college, and/or pros, have coached in college, internationally and/or in local youth and HS programs.  SMS coaches have won such awards/honors as Washington Post All Met Coach of the Year, SMAC Coach of the year, MILL Coach of the Year, US Lacrosse Man of the Year, USILA All Star Game coach and many others.

At SMS lacrosse our ability to identify a player’s talents while at the same time putting them in a position to succeed and get recruited is second to none.  We don’t just roll the ball out at practice we use that time to make you better and improve your ability to get recruited.  Not only do you have to develop your lacrosse skills as part of SMS (which we do with detailed and organized practices) you also have to develop your athleticism and lacrosse IQ.  We don’t play “pick up ball” when it comes to your recruitment.  We focus on player development within our team offensive and defensive structure.  We recognize that you will perform your best in front of college recruiters when you play within a system. We work at every practice and every tournament we enter to improve your lacrosse IQ and showcase your skill set.

Lacrosse recruiting has changed incredibly over the past 10 plus years and even more so since 2008.  Players are committing to colleges earlier than ever.  SMS Lacrosse is on the front end of this process.  We recognized this trend early and we adjusted our teams accordingly.  Your freshman year and sophomore year matter now more than ever.  We would even argue that your rising freshman year now holds an even greater importance with many players now committing in the fall of their junior year – before they ever even play a game of their spring season - this time period has become critical.  Yes, the recruiting process can be intimidating.  Our coaching staff at SMS is extremely well connected to the college coaching community.  We’re here to help walk you through the process, help you make connections and expose you to college recruiters.

We set our recruiting teams schedules up to dovetail around individual recruiting opportunities such as Free State Tryouts, TOP 205, UA tryouts…etc.  We believe these events are paramount to your recruitment.  We are here to help support and guide you during the recruiting process regardless of where you get seen.  In fact, we highly encourage you to attend these types of events.

So, if you’ve played for another select team and haven’t developed your game at the pace you would like to then SMS Lacrosse is for you.  If you’ve played for another recruiting team and you aren’t happy with your exposure SMS Lacrosse is the right place for you.  Don’t leave your recruitment to chance.
